Quick answer

Can you pay to be recommended by ChatGPT?

By the Rank in Chat team · Updated 27 October 2026

Short answer

Not in the way it's sometimes sold. Nobody outside the companies that make ChatGPT and Gemini controls what their normal answers say, so no agency, including us, can sell you a guaranteed recommendation.

What you can do is make your business easy for assistants to find, understand and describe correctly, then check where you stand.

What to do instead

  1. Be wary of guaranteed placements. If someone sells a guaranteed spot in ChatGPT's or Gemini's normal answers, ask exactly how. Nobody outside the companies that make these assistants controls what they say.
  2. Find out where you stand. Ask the assistants the questions your customers ask, in clean chats, and note whether you're named, where, and who is named instead.
  3. Fix what's unclear or wrong. Make your website, Google Business Profile and listings clear, current and consistent: services, areas, hours, contact details and reviews.
  4. Re-check over time. Ask the same questions again after a few weeks and compare the pattern.

The honest limits

Making your information clearer improves your chances; it doesn't guarantee an outcome, and the assistants change how they work often. We're independent of OpenAI and Google, and this page isn't legal or advertising advice. See what our free check covers for exactly what we look at.

See where you stand first. It's free.

We ask ChatGPT and Google's Gemini the kind of questions your customers ask, then email you whether you were named, roughly where, and who was suggested instead. A person reviews your check before we send it, usually within 2 working days.

Questions people ask

So what does Rank in Chat sell?

The check is free. If you want help, there's an AI visibility audit (£395 +VAT), a fix sprint where the team makes the fixes (£1,950 +VAT) and monthly care (from £295 a month +VAT). None of them buys a place in an assistant's answers, and we say so.

What about adverts inside AI assistants?

Advertising options in AI products are new and change often, so check the assistant company's own current information. Any advert is a separate thing from the ordinary answer, and nothing on this site involves buying adverts.

Is paying for reviews a shortcut?

No. Fake or paid-for reviews break the rules of the main review sites and UK consumer law. Asking real customers for honest reviews is fine and is one of the most useful things you can do.
