An AI ranking check is a test of whether AI assistants, such as ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, name your business when someone asks for what you do in your area. It records whether you're named, roughly where in the answer, who is named instead, and anything said about you that looks wrong.

It's a snapshot of what the assistants said on the day, not a permanent ranking or a guarantee.

How an AI ranking check is done

Choose the questions. Write the questions a new customer would type, with the service and the town, such as "Who's a good electrician in Stamford?". Leave your business name out.
Ask the assistants in clean chats. Put each question to the AI assistants you care about, in a new chat each time, signed out or with memory off, so earlier conversations don't steer the answer.
Record what each answer says. Note whether the business is named, roughly where (first, one of several, a passing mention), who else is named, and any details that look wrong.
Look for the pattern. Answers vary, so judge the pattern across questions and askings rather than any single reply.

The honest limits

A check only covers the questions asked, on the days they were asked, in the assistants used. Answers can differ for other people, other wordings and other days, and assistants change their tools often. It tells you where you stand and what looks wrong; it can't tell you exactly how each assistant decides.
